Organizational Background

Mission

ADPI works toward the advancement of the AOD field in California through the creation and dissemination of knowledge regarding alcohol and other drug problems and culturally competent approaches to their prevention and amelioration.

 

Objectives and Strategies

  1. To expand the knowledge base of practitioners and managers in the AOD field through:
    • Conducting or commissioning studies intended to illuminate critical issues in the prevention or treatment of AOD problems.
    • Distributing information regarding best practices and promising approaches in AOD prevention and treatment.
    • Provision of such training or technical assistance as may be required for the successful application of this knowledge.
  2. To inform policy makers and the public on AOD issues through:
    • Conducting or commissioning studies intended to illuminate critical issues for the development of policy with a bearing on the prevention or treatment of AOD problems.
    • Distributing data and analysis on the impact of AOD problems at state and local levels.
    • Distributing information regarding best practices and promising approaches in AOD policy, prevention and treatment.
  3. To develop more effective solutions to AOD problems by convening consumers, practitioners, administrators, and policymakers in all relevant service systems to:
    • Define with precision critical issues in AOD policy, prevention or treatment.
    • Identify key components of solutions.
    • Identify barriers to implementation.
    • Broadly disseminate to the public the recommended solutions.

Legal Structure

ADPI was incorporated in August 2000 as a nonprofit public benefit corporation and is organized and operated exclusively for educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Board of Directors

ADPI operates under the direction of a 15-member board of directors, representing county systems, providers, provider organizations and other representatives of the AOD field in California.

General Operating: County Alcohol and Drug Program Administrators Association of California (CADPAAC).
Projects: The California Endowment, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Charles and Helen Schwab Foundation, California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs.
